This post is dated back to May 2008 when we were wondering what to have for dinner during a Friday night. I couldn’t remember exactly why but we made an impromptu decision to visit this restaurant in Klang since ys has been there and told me that the food was good.
After about an hour drive from KL, we finally arrived at Coconut Flower with two growling stomachs.
The main entrance to the restaurant.
We arrived rather late at about 8.30pm. The restaurant was already packed with many customers, but yet many are still looking for a table. After a tough time finding an empty table, we finally settled down at a rather quiet area.
Perhaps they didn’t hire enough staff, or customers were simply outnumbered on that day, we waited for more than 15 minutes for the waitress to take our order, and so waited quite long for our food to arrive. Anyway, both carrot milk and watermelon juice were decent and they were priced at RM2.80 each.
Finally our long-anticipated sweet and sour crab (酸甜螃蟹) has arrived. Priced at RM28, we find this quite delicious, the crab meat was fresh and juicy and the sweet and sour taste boosted our appetites.
We find their mini buns (馒头) extremely good! It complemented the sweet and sour crab really well. The bun was crusty on the outside but soft and fluffy on the inside. It was really tasty and we had 3 plates of them!
Since we came all the way for good seafood, we couldn’t afford to miss this kam heong kepah (甘香甲巴), a type of fresh clams. Kepah is larger and heavier compared to the normal clams. Priced at RM10, the shellfish was aromatic and nicely stir-fried. The spiciness of the curry leaves and the chilli padi satisfied our desire for spicy stuff.
Priced at RM8, the stir-fried vegetable (清炒菜胆) was ok, but a little oily. White rice was priced at RM1 per plate. Other recommend orders as read from other food blogs would be their la la mee hoon, deep dried calamari, salad prawns and their specialty bean curd.
It is enjoyable to have dinner out of KL once in a while, and this place is definitely good for fresh seafood. Our complaints are that service was below average, the waitress seems a little impatient while taking our orders and other staffs hardly catered our needs. Would definitely hope that they’ll improve their service, if not they’ll be driving customers away.
