Coconut Flower Seafoods Restaurant (椰花园海鲜餐馆)

Posted by: Wen Ching In: Chinese Food

This post is dated back to May 2008 when we were wondering what to have for dinner during a Friday night. I couldn’t remember exactly why but we made an impromptu decision to visit this restaurant in Klang since ys has been there and told me that the food was good.

After about an hour drive from KL, we finally arrived at Coconut Flower with two growling stomachs.

The main entrance to the restaurant.

We arrived rather late at about 8.30pm. The restaurant was already packed with many customers, but yet many are still looking for a table. After a tough time finding an empty table, we finally settled down at a rather quiet area.

Perhaps they didn’t hire enough staff, or customers were simply outnumbered on that day, we waited for more than 15 minutes for the waitress to take our order, and so waited quite long for our food to arrive. Anyway, both carrot milk and watermelon juice were decent and they were priced at RM2.80 each.

Finally our long-anticipated sweet and sour crab (酸甜螃蟹) has arrived. Priced at RM28, we find this quite delicious, the crab meat was fresh and juicy and the sweet and sour taste boosted our appetites.

We find their mini buns (馒头) extremely good! It complemented the sweet and sour crab really well. The bun was crusty on the outside but soft and fluffy on the inside. It was really tasty and we had 3 plates of them!

Since we came all the way for good seafood, we couldn’t afford to miss this kam heong kepah (甘香甲巴), a type of fresh clams. Kepah is larger and heavier compared to the normal clams. Priced at RM10, the shellfish was aromatic and nicely stir-fried. The spiciness of the curry leaves and the chilli padi satisfied our desire for spicy stuff.

Priced at RM8, the stir-fried vegetable (清炒菜胆) was ok, but a little oily. White rice was priced at RM1 per plate. Other recommend orders as read from other food blogs would be their la la mee hoon, deep dried calamari, salad prawns and their specialty bean curd.

It is enjoyable to have dinner out of KL once in a while, and this place is definitely good for fresh seafood. Our complaints are that service was below average, the waitress seems a little impatient while taking our orders and other staffs hardly catered our needs. Would definitely hope that they’ll improve their service, if not they’ll be driving customers away.

I like the lala bee hoon and the taufu. Quite nice… 😉

And yes, the service can be a real pain at night…terribly short staffed!

Little Inbox, yes, we do! And we miss Malaysian food very badly!

Nic (KHKL), yeah, it is indeed. Do check it out when you have the time, the food is quite good but just have to bear with their service.

追梦者, yup, undeniably their food is good. :)

Selba, yeah, they do offer good seafood. Glad that the food didn't let us down.

ai wei, haha, we also don't mind having you around. No worries, you're our 开心果 instead of light bulb. This was planned impromptu, next time we'll plan and ask you along! ^^

嘉CacinG進, oh, you like their crabs too? Quite a lot of people has given positive comments on their seafood. :)

Christy, haha, yeah, all the way there just to try their seafood. But it's fun to get away from KL once in a while.

Bangsar-bAbE, oo, it's great that you tried their lala mee hoon and bean curd, we wanted to try it out next time! Yeah, agree with you that they lack of staffs, wish they could improve on that.

Sean, yeah, next time we would book a table and go earlier. The food is actually quite good, if you don't mind the service, you can pay this place a visit. ^^

mimid3vils, oo, you like butter cheese crab a lot? We like it too but usually ended up ordering a spicy version of crabs! Haha!

thenomadGourmand, so nice to have your friend to drive you there! :) The lala mee hon was ok? I thought it was one of their recommended dishes. We still feel like trying it out. Love the mantous!

Over many years , this place has consistently & singlehandedly drawn in the crowds from faraway land, being the Teluk Gong pioneer !
Is is indeed one of Klang's 8 heavenly sensations and a must try at least once for connoisseurs. You shud return for their signature toddy , lala mee hoon & salted chicks

backStreetGluttons, yeah, I totally agree with what you say. They seem to posses the power to draw people from afar to Telok Gong! We would definitely return to try their lala mee hoon in the future! :)

Camemberu, thanks for the compliment! ^^

cariso, guess this restaurant is really popular. No worries, since you're in Malaysia, there will be chances for you to visit them!

J2Kfm, toddy? We're not too sure what you're referring to. Curry/tomyam prawns are good too? Got it, we'll order that too along with the lala mee hoon next time! :)

ai wei, haha! Ok then, next time when it came to our mind to visit a plan in a sudden, we'll tag you along! The more the merrier! Not light bulb at all! ^^

I love to eat seafoods because they are very tasty. Seafoods are also very rich in iodine and other salt minerals that you can only get on the sea. **`*.

Kindest regards“>
