Perhaps many would be familiar with this long established Chinese restaurant which mainly serves Shanghainese and Szechuan food. I’ve been to this branch in OUG Plaza since I was young. Now, this outlet is combined with Nam Heong Restaurant.
We were there for our late lunch during the weekday, that explains why the restaurant is a little empty.
We ordered a large fried dumplings (锅贴) for RM9.20. This is one of my favourite dishes in this restaurant. The mince meat filling was juicy on the inside and the wrappings were quite crispy. It tasted even better when eaten with their chilli sauce or ginger with vinegar, depending on your liking.
Priced at RM3.80, this chicken feet with groundnuts soup (花生鸡脚汤) was quite satisfying. The soup tasted rather sweet and natural.
Another of my all time favourite dish in Esquire Kitchen – fried sauce noodles (炸酱面). The chunks of pork tasted really delicious with the rich and flavourful sauce and it is even better when eaten with the chillis. This costs RM7.90.
Finally, we had a Yang Chow style fried rice (扬州炒饭) for RM7.90. It was our first time trying out their fried rice. Nothing too special about this dish, just an ordinary fried rice. For our drinks, we had 2 Chinese tea, priced at RM1.30 per serving.
Overall it was a satisfying meal. Usually, service was quite average overall. Anyway, this place has other signature dishes that we really like such as the Stir-fried Chicken Paprika (宫保鸡丁) and their flower buns (花卷). Those are dishes that you can’t miss if you visit this restaurant!
