Bak Kut Teh is always an excellent tummy warming option during the rainy season. Over the past few months, when the weather was cold or rainy, this option always came into our minds and one of our favourite places to have Bak Kut Teh is Pao Xiang, as they always offer consistently good Bak Kut Teh which is reasonably priced.

One of the reasons for choosing Pao Xiang was because the Sri Petaling branch was located near our place. Parking might be a bit hard to find in this area but we suggest parking in The Store’s car park which is usually empty.

Pao Xiang is well-known for their string tied meat. We’ve tried that once, on our first visit, and it was very good. It was said that the method reduces fat in the meat and retains its chewiness, juices and tender textures to absorb more essence of the herbal soup. However, on our usual visits, the photo above would usually be what we order for dinner.

Since there were only two of us, we will usually order the Claypot Bak Kut Teh (瓦煲肉骨茶) for single serving. Priced at RM13.80, we found it reasonably priced and it was served with generous pork ribs, pork belly, mushrooms, Tau Fu Pok (dried bean curd) and Fu Chuk (bean curd sheets). We usually opt out for the intestines and chose to have more meat instead. The traditional herbal soup was delicious, it was flavourful but not too thick or bitter. We enjoyed the soup a lot but our best choice would still be Yap Chuan, which we posted not too long ago.

Other than that, we will also order a small serving of Dry Bak Kut Teh (干肉骨茶) to share. Priced at RM12.50 for a single serving, we enjoyed this dish a lot as well. Although we found Yap Chuan’s version more delicious, Pao Xiang’s was quite good and they served thicker pork pieces which had a better bite to it.

Since we like Tau Fu Pok a lot, we would usually add on an additional bowl of Tau Fu Pok for RM5.

And we also love to have Yao Char Guai (Chinese crullers) with Bak Kut Teh, which we will also add on for RM4.
Overall, we enjoyed eating at Pao Xiang a lot. The location is close to our place and the food is consistently good, worth checking it out if you’re a Bak Kut Teh lover! Do check out their website and their active Facebook page for more information!
