We are both big fans of Pontian-style wanton noodles, having had it from time to time in another shop in Kuchai Lama (which we have yet to blog about).

So when we had plans to go to SS2 in Petaling Jaya one day, we did not hesitate to give this chain of Pontian Wanton Noodles a go.

A firm favourite of ours in the Kuchai Lama outlet has to be the noodles in chilli and black sauce (辣椒酱跟黑酱). Naturally, we had to try the same in this Pontian branch. Priced at RM4.50 for a small bowl, it came with the usual accompaniments; a few slices of char siew, 2 small fried wantons, vegetables and a bowl of soup with two small boiled wantons inside. We find that the focus on the Pontian-style wanton noodles will be mainly on the noodles and the sauce as the accompaniments are usually small and not spectacular. In this instance, we thought that the noodles were simply alright. It had a hint of spiciness which was what the sauce was supposed to be, but the noodles itself just lacked that springy texture that would have made it good.
It was not bad at all by far, but we still prefer the Pontian noodles in Kuchai Lama. Oddly enough, the outlet in Kuchai Lama has many similarities to this Pontian chain, even the menu, but we understand that it is not part of this chain of Pontian Wanton Noodle restaurants. Nevertheless, we shall endeavour to update the blog on the Kuchai Lama outlet for all to see!
