Restoran Fatty Mok Hakka Yong Tau Foo (肥佬莫客家酿豆腐海鲜饭店)

Fatty Mok Hakka Yong Tau Foo has been a place that I have been visiting with my parents since young. The restaurant is located in Salak South Garden, which was convenient for us because it was rather near my place.

The restaurant has been in operation for more than 37 years. It is one of the more well-known eateries in Salak South Garden. The establishment originally started out as a small stall, gradually expanded to become a restaurant today. It is now run by two Mok brothers, who took over the business from their father, who was affectionately known as Fatty Mok.

The restaurant was rather packed during dinner time. However, service was speedy and efficient.

Fatty Mok is known for their yong tau foo, and for us, these are one of the must-order in their restaurant. The restaurant serves 15 types of yong tau foo. We had their tau foo (豆腐), foo chook (腐皮), fried tau foo (炸豆腐), brinjal (茄子) and foo chook roll (腐卷). Their tau foo was my all time favourite, it was soft and silky, coupled with the fish paste stuffing dipped in their home made sweet sauce, the combination was excellent! We also enjoyed the fried tau foo, it was soaked with the intensely flavourful broth which was cooked with more than 10 types of herbs and spices. Every type of yong tau foo had their own specialty and deliciousness.

One of our regular orders was their curry mee (咖喱面). It was definitely one of the best versions of curry noodles we have had, the curry was very thick and fragrant and it was filled with lots of cockles, fried bean curd, smooth poached chicken and deep fried pig’s skin. The curry mee is simply one of the best we’ve had and it was consistently good.

We also tried their dry fried meat noodles (干捞炸肉面) that day. Again, our bowl of noodles was served with generous fillings of fried pork and black fungus. The noodles were delicious, evenly coated with black soy sauce which gave it a nice flavour, but we somehow prefer the curry noodles more, perhaps it was caused by our own passion for spicy food.

The total bill for this meal came up to RM18.50 with two drinks. We are unable to provide a price breakdown for this post since the prices were not stated on the menu. Overall, we thought the price was reasonable and the food was of superb quality. We were rather impressed with their website as well, menus and articles about the restaurant can be found online.
