Restoran Kee V Sdn Bhd (卫记辣汤之家)

Posted by: Wen Ching In: Chinese Food

Most Malaysians know that Kajang is well-known for satay, however, not many know about their spicy soup, more commonly known as Lat Tong in Cantonese. We found out about this place not too long ago, and fell in love with this new found food.

Restoran Kee V Sdn Bhd, Selangor
Kee V is located in a rather secluded housing area in Kajang, fortunately we found the place with the help of our GPS. On the day of our visit, we arrived late, but yet the restaurant was packed with lots of customers.

Spicy Soup, Restoran Kee V Sdn Bhd
Service was good and food was served very quickly despite the huge crowd. We were served with our Lat Tong very soon after we placed our order. This Spicy Soup (辣汤) was priced at RM10 per pax. Lat Tong resembles any other clear soup, however, it was spicy when eaten. The spiciness of the soup came from the use of pepper and ginger and the sweetness of the soup came from the pork, chicken, intestines and Chinese celery. We loved the soup a lot. We thought Kee V’s version was much more impressive than Restoran Siaw Kah, another restaurant well known for their Lat Tong.

Spicy Meat, Restoran Kee V Sdn Bhd
We also ordered their Spicy Meat (火爆肉), simply because they were well known for that dish. Priced at RM10 per pax, the dish was amazing, the pork was very well marinated and cooked and it was delicious when eaten with white rice. Definitely something that one shouldn’t miss when visiting this restaurant!

Choi Po Tau Foo, Restoran Kee V Sdn Bhd
Since we felt like having a tofu dish that day, we ordered a small Choi Po Tau Foo (菜蒲豆腐) priced at RM7.50. The tofu was nice and simple and we were satisfied with it.

Stir Fried Sweet Potato Leaves, Restoran Kee V Sdn Bhd
Lastly, we had a Stir Fried Sweet Potato Leaves (番薯叶) just to have something green for the meal. Priced at RM7.50, the simple vegetable dish was comfort food and had a nice crunch to it.

We were very satisfied with our dining experience in Kee V and would definitely return for more, even though Kajang is quite far from our place. Other than the dishes above, Kee V is also known for their Chicken with Wine (花雕鸡) and Salted Fish with Meat (咸鱼花腩) which we will try in our future visits. Hey, I noticed you really like spicy food. So do I.
Can I suggest you to try Hunan cuisine? It’s spicy like Sze Chuan but use more chilli than pepper. There’s a few in KL and my favourite is Xiang Fu Xiang Chen in Scott Garden and another small restaurant in Sg Chua, Kajang (quite hard to describe the location)
And have you found a good ma la steamboat in KL? I’m still dreaming of the best ma la steamboat I had in Taipei as the ones in KL I find is too much on the spiciness and not flavourful enough

The Yum List, yup, it was rather healthy indeed, and very delicious too!

QiQi, thank you for your comment. And that’s true, we do enjoy spicy food a lot! Thank you for the recommendation, we went to the Xiang Fu Xiang Cheng today, and the food was good, will post on that soon. As for the restaurant in Kajang, we’ll keep it in mind! Hmm, the only good Ma La steamboat restaurant that we know of in KL is Xiao Fei Yang (http://www.eatonlylar.com/chinese-food/xiao-fei-yang-little-fat-lamb-restaurant), we’ll venture more into it and update you soon hopefully!

Simple Person, yup, do check this place out, they have very good Lat Tong and Spicy Meat!
