Caffé Chino

Posted by: Wen Ching In: Dessert|United Kingdom

As we had run out of things to do in Stratford, we decided it was time to catch a train back to Birmingham.

The Bullring Bull, Birmingham
Birmingham is the second largest city in the UK, but since our daytrip was more focused on Stratford we did not get around to many sights at all in Birmingham. We walked around the city centre and also had a look around The Bullring, Birmingham’s major shopping centre.

Caffé Chino
Before long we decided that it was about time for dinner, so off we went in search of our chosen restaurant (more on that in the next post!). On the way there, we got distracted by a nice looking Chinese bakery called Caffé Chino.

Caffé Chino
A long display cabinet greeted us as we entered the store. It was not full of delicious buns and pastries at the time because it was rather late in the day, but it still had a reasonable selection which we happily chose from. Tables and chairs were also available for those who prefer to dine in with a drink.

Puco Pandan Cake and Egg Tart, Caffé Chino
We ended up getting some snacks to take away for later, so as not to ruin our appetite for dinner. From top to bottom, our haul included a Puco Pandan Cake (香叶蛋糕) for £1.20 and an Egg Tart (蛋挞) for £0.90. We thought the egg tart was rather average and nothing to shout about. On the other hand, the pandan cake was really good. It was quite light and fluffy and sweet, without an overpowering pandan flavour.

Custard Bun and Pineapple Bun, Caffé Chino
Also from top to bottom, we got ourselves a Custard Bun (吉士包) for £0.90 and a Pineapple Bun (菠萝包) for £0.80. It’s hard to go wrong with both these items and we enjoyed them because they were nice and sweet, but we also thought there was nothing particularly amazing about them. It was definitely worth it, though!

That’s it for our little pre-dinner distraction. Just so you know, we didn’t eat all of that right before dinner! More information on Caffé Chino can be found on this website.

Baby Sumo, yup, both the exterior and interior of this place looks nice. And the bakeries were not bad too! Quite a nice discovery!
