Mado Café

We recently heard about a new Middle Eastern dessert café in the Bukit Bintang area. Being fans of dessert and having tried some in the UK and around Europe, we went to try it out one night after dinner.

Located on the corner of a busy intersection on Jalan Bukit Bintang and right across the street from Lot 10, Mado Café is hard to miss. We noted that Mado Café originated from Turkey, so we were expecting some good authentic Middle Eastern dessert!

There was a takeaway counter and a dine-in area as well. We discovered that the café actually took up quite a large area for dine-in customers, so there was plenty of seating! One section of the interior of the café is pictured above.  We thought it had a bit of an elegant atmosphere to it.

Turkish Traditional Tea, Mado Café
To start off, we ordered a Turkish Traditional Tea for RM5. We personally did not think very highly of the tea as it didn’t taste like much and it was very similar to plain Boh tea from a teabag. This was something that we would stay away from the next time.

Kazandibi, Mado Café
As for the dessert itself, we tried a Kazandibi. Priced at RM20, this was a traditional Turkish carmelised milk pudding topped with ‘Sade’ ice-cream and sprinkled with chopped hazelnut. This dessert was excellent! The rich milk pudding had a smooth texture and had the right amount of sweetness to be eaten on its own. Coupled on with the even sweeter Sade ice-cream, it was a joy to behold. Definitely a dessert to satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth.

Special Dessert Plates with Traditional ‘Kesme’ Ice-Cream, Mado Café
We also tried one of the Special Dessert Plates with Traditional ‘Kesme’ Ice-Cream. Pictured above is the Pistachio Special, priced at RM26. This dessert plate came with handmade Dolama, Pistachio Baklava and Kesme ice-cream sprinkled with chopped pistachio. The Dolama was a baklava with a mix of crushed pistachio and various nuts rolled in pastry. Both the Dolama and Pistachio Baklava had a generous amount of pistachio in them and were very sweet, just like how they should be, yet in harmony with the flavour of the pistachio.

Our conclusion is that the desserts we had were very good. Mado Café will definitely satisfy any sweet cravings one might have. The ice-creams can be bought on a cone as well for those who don’t want to dine-in and the baklavas can be purchased on their own, which would make for a good snack at home. Ooh, that last little platter looks like it could possibly be meant for sharing… but not really. :-)

The Yum List: Haha, it’s certainly set out in a way that looks like it’s meant to be shared, but we think that a single person can finish it. Of course, food tastes better when shared though! =D
