Ever since St David’s 2 opened a couple of years back, it brought with it a plethora of new shops and eateries to Cardiff. Muffin Break is one of those eateries which we have taken a liking to for their selection of cakes and muffins.
Located in the Eastside of St David’s 2, Muffin Break has plenty of seating along with a sizeable crowd to go with it. Their display of sweet and savoury items is visible to passers-by and is a constant temptation. In fact, we first decided to have some cake here because it looked so good in the display!
We’ve tried several items over time, the first here being the Baked Cheesecake. Priced at £2.70 per slice, the cheesecake was dense as opposed to being light and fluffy. The cheese was strong but the level of sweetness managed to strike a good balance between the two flavours. The cheesecake was nice, but perhaps not our favourite thing in Muffin Break.
The Banana Cake is a winner in our book. For £2.45, we got a light piece of cake with just the right amount of banana to it. The desiccated coconut and cream on top of the cake completed what was already a good, sweet banana cake.
We’ve had one of their Fruit Scones for £1.90 as well. The scone was served with strawberry jam and butter. The scone was sweet in its own right, but not too sweet so that it could be eaten with the jam and butter. It was served nice and warm, with the outside being slightly crusty whilst the inside was soft. Definitely something to order again.
What review on a place called Muffin Break would be complete without a muffin? So here is the Mixed Berry and Choc Chip muffin, priced at £1.80 each. The muffin was moist on the inside and the top outer layer was slightly crunchy. It was sweet and fruity thanks to the chocolate chips and mixed berries. We thought this was a very good muffin!
Special mention goes out to the carrot cake even though we do not have a picture of it at the moment. The carrot cake is very good and one of our favourite things to have from Muffin Break.
