We personally find that found all the banana leaf meals that we’ve had to date, Nirwana’s is hard to beat and is probably one of the best overall.

That was until we tried the food at Vishal in Brickfields. Located on Jalan Scott, Vishal has a clean environment and service was not bad as well.

Vishal’s vegetarian banana leaf meal was priced at a very reasonable RM5. As usual, it came with 3 vegetable sides which we quite enjoyed. The only gripe that we had with it was that we felt the portions for the vegetables were a bit on the small side. With that aside, the vegetables themselves were good. However, there was nothing on that day that compared to Nirwana’s deep-fried bitterguord.

The main highlight at Vishal has to be the curry. We think that a good banana leaf meal rests solely on the curry. We’ll be happy as long as the rice with the curry tastes good. Vishal’s curry exceeded our expectations. The fish curry was very thick and flavourful. We could taste the curry’s tomato base as it was sour and so, very appetising. The fish curry was definitely a notch above many others!

We also opted to have a Mutton Curry for RM8 to supplement our meal. We thought that the mutton curry was nice, but it was nothing special compared to many others that we’ve tried before. A good meat accompaniment, but we can’t rave about it too much.
We’re glad that we found a new joint for good banana leaf rice. We would go back to Vishal for the curry alone! For those of you who fancy a good curry, head over to Vishal in Brickfields as check it out!
