Signor Valentino

Posted by: Wen Ching In: Italian Food|United Kingdom

This was where we went to celebrate Valentines Day about three months ago. At first, we planned to revisit Bayside Brasseriebut unfortunately when we arrived at the restaurant, it was occupied for a company lunch the other day. We had no choice but to explore other restaurants in the same area.

We were spoilt with choices of food available in that area, from Indian to Thai. Finally we chose Signor Valentino after some deliberation, one of the reasons being that this restaurant has a splendid sea view.

Perfect view of the sea.

The interior of the restaurant is pleasant, quiet and perhaps more romantic at night.

Not wanting wine or other heavy drinks for lunch, we had just plain water for our lunch.

We started our lunch by having bruschetta con mozzarella at £3.50 as our starter. This toasted bread and mozzarella cheese looks quite delicious when served but we were a little disappointed when we tasted it. I am not quite too sure how to describe how it tastes like, perhaps it wasn’t well toasted, and so causing it not too aromatic overall.

Ys had pollo nero as his main dish. Priced at £8.95, this breast of chicken with black peppercorns, red wine, brandy and French mustard was served with potatoes and vegetables of the day. We were a little disappointed with the portion of the chicken served but fortunately it tasted quite good. The gravy was good, with a light sense of black peppercorn, tasted quite light overall.

The potatoes and vegetables which came with the chicken were served separately. The portion of potatoes served was huge and it was more than enough to fill our stomach. It was fine overall, but a little too oily to our liking.

I had linguine fruitti di mare, which is linguine served with mixed seafood, garlic, tomato and herbs. The price was the same as the pollo nero. It tasted quite good, very appetizing with strong senses of garlic and tomato and the portion was very large and filling. The prawns and mussels were quite fresh and delicious but sadly they were rather small compared to the one that we had in Bella Italia.

Undeniably, we were more than full when we finished our main course. But I just can’t leave the restaurant without having a dessert. So we had this white chocolate and blackcurrant cheesecake for £4.95. The cheesecake was fantastic! The cheesecake was rich and creamy and it made a great combination with the slightly sourish blackcurrant topping. For anyone visiting this restaurant, we would highly recommend you to try this cheesecake.

Food and service were satisfactory overall, but the presentation was a little disappointing. It was a delightful meal overall, with pleasant environment and dazzling sea view. It will be useful to visit their official website here for more information. We will be looking forward to explore other restaurants in Cardiff Bay next time.

Squall, yeah, it’s true that Cardiff Bay is really a nice place for lunch. =)

Little Inbox, haha, yeah, it was a happy one. =)

J2Kfm, hmm, not too sure if there’s a Bellinis in Malaysia. Don’t think I’ve heard of it. Perhaps they share the same name?

Selba, yeah, it is a nice restaurant with nice view and ambience.

Ai Wei, we were sitting inside, too cold to sit outside. Would freeze both of us, haha! Yeah, but no worries, though the food was not up to expectation, it was still a great celebration!

Cariso, yup, a nice place to celebrate Valentines day.

Nic (KHKL), yeah, sometimes a good place for a good talk would mean more than good food. ^^

Alexander, perhaps you can visit Cardiff some day since you’re in the UK. :)

Jason, true, love the sea view. But we miss KL a lot! Even if it’s without sea view! Haha!

Mimid3vils, haha, indeed, ys finished it in a few bites. Hope the serving is larger.

Sakaigirl, yeah, the place is definitely nice and quiet. As for the food, except for the potatoes and vegetables which were a little too oily, the rest was healthy I supposed. :)
