We chose Equatorial Hotel for our stay in Malacca this time. It was quite hard to believe that other hotels were unavailable and this is the only choice that we had since we did a very last minute booking. Anyway, the hotel was good, a little pricey though. But the best thing is that you get a RM80 meal voucher to spend at any of their food and beverage outlets. We got so excited but again, faced difficulties choosing which restaurant to dine in. There were just too many fine restaurants in the hotel, Kampachi (勘八), Rest House Café, Seri Nyonya Peranakan Restaurant and so much more.
So, finally, after some deep thoughts, since we wanted to try both Italian and Japanese food, we decided to order room service, that is, to have dinner in our own room. First time doing this in our life, we find it quite fun actually, and of course, you get to have privacy dining in your own room. Our dinner arrived shortly after 15 minutes. We longed for it.
Here’s our spaghetti with chicken Bolognese for RM22.80. The aroma of this spaghetti was so intense and it surrounded our room. The parmesan cheese was really tasty and the serving was really large.
As big fans of Japanese food, we couldn’t miss out ordering something from Kampachi Japanese Restaurant. We ordered Kampachi bento (勘八弁当) which includes an appetiser, sashimi, tempura, grilled dish, simmered dish, vinegared dish, rice, pickles, miso soup and fruits.
We started off with our appetiser, which we were not quite sure whether it was beef. Since I couldn’t take beef, ys ate them all and said that it was good.
Our sashimi was good too. They mainly served salmon and tuna sashimi, they were quite fresh.
Then we had our tempura. As usual, prawns tempura were served with some vegetable tempuras. We liked it.
Our grilled fish was served with eggs.
Simmered dish with fish, carrot and two scallops!
Out of all of the dishes, we preferred the vinegared dish. They served vinegared unagi, jelly fish, wakame and cucumber. It was sour and delicious!
As mentioned above, our set was served together with rice, pickles, miso soup and fruits. This set costs RM73. It might be expensive at first thought, but given the exquisite quality, quantity and variety of the food, it was really worth it actually. Our stomachs were so full after finishing dinner!
We would highly recommend you to visit Kampachi Japanese Restaurant of Equatorial Hotel. It has been quite some time since I last went to their buffet but we think it’s worth a try.
