We’ve read so many positive reviews about this Japanese restaurant, as Japanese food lovers, we wouldn’t want to miss this place out. So on a Sunday afternoon, we went for their “Eat all you can” lunch starting from 12 to 3pm. It costs RM55 per person not including tax and service charge.
The restaurant is on the second floor of Chulan Square.
The staircase up to second floor.
The environment was pleasant and comfortable, with modern interiors. The restaurant was fully booked and packed with customers as usual.
So let’s begin with our food. To start with, we had a chukka kurage (中華くらげ). This seasoned jellyfish tasted really chewy and appetising, it was really good!
Next, we had sashimi moriawase (刺身盛合せ) which consists of fresh tuna (まぐろ), white meat fish (白身魚), fresh salmon (鮭), boiled octopus (たこ) and fresh cuttlefish (いか). Thumbs up for this plate of assorted sashimi, all types of sashimi were really fresh. We enjoyed the fresh cuttlefish a lot, it was really delicious!
Time for sushi! We ordered ni hotate (煮ホタテ) and ebikko (えびっこ) sushi. The boiled scallop was juicy and succulent, the sauce went well with it. The shrimp roe was good too, no complaints about it!
Perhaps we were really hungry at that time, we had a plate of makimono moriawase (巻物盛合せ) without second thoughts. The serving came out to be enormous! This assorted sushi roll includes a cucumber roll (かっぱ巻き), California roll (カリフォルニア巻き), prawn tempura roll (海老天えびっ子巻き), spicy salmon roll (クランキーセーモんーロール), futomaki (太巻き) and the large soft shell crab roll (スパイダーロール). The best sushi roll would be the spicy salmon roll, the salmon was fresh and a sense of spiciness boosted the taste of it. The soft shell crab roll was rather disappointing as it was served cold and it wasn’t crispy anymore. But fortunately, the rest of the sushi rolls were good.
Though it took them quite some time to serve the unagi kabayaki (うなぎ蒲焼), it was worth waiting.
We also had shiitake mushrooms (しいたけ). We didn’t really like it because the mushrooms were really dry and bland to us. We were wondering if it was overgrilled.
The sukiyaki (すき焼き) was supposed to be served with beef but we requested to them to change it to chicken. The chicken was soft and tender, but the soup was a little too sweet for our liking. Overall, it was average.
For bean curd lovers, you can choose to have yudofu (湯豆腐). This simple dish came together with bonito flakes (鰹節) and spring onions. The bean curd was smooth and silky, it was delicious when dipped in the slightly sourish sauce which we think is ponzu (ポン酢).
Overall it was a satisfying meal. We like this concept in that we do not have to walk around carrying our food, but instead we can sit down and enjoy our lunch. The menu was kept simple and it was limited to the most common and popular Japanese food. Service was quite good. Do remember to make a reservation before visiting this restaurant!
