This Japanese restaurant is fairly new. Well, we can’t really tell that it’s a Japanese restaurant by its outlook. We find their interior quite amusing and decided to give it a try, also since we’re a big fan of Japanese food. Anyway, we were quite surprise to find that Sushi Groove actually originated from Jakarta, Indonesia. Upon entering, we were greeted “groovy” instead of the typical greetings of “irashai imase”. We noticed that they have long and large tables and there were only a few separate tables in the restaurant. We waited for quite some time for the separate table as we prefer to have our own space.
The environment of the restaurant. Stylish?
We only ordered dynamite ball for our sushi. The rice was shaped in a rice ball and it was topped with salmon, ebiko and their special sauce. That was RM9.90. It was somewhat spicy, tasted quite well, we enjoyed it. Though it wasn’t authentic Japanese food, it was quite special to make a difference.
Here’s our mixed vegetable udon for RM12.90. We didn’t really enjoy their udon, the soup didn’t taste quite well and the serving was too small.
This is the vegetable tempura served together with the udon. This too, was quite disappointing. The tempura was not as crispy as it should be and it was not warm when served.
We ordered curry fried rice bibimbab as our second main course. A combination of Japanese style curry fried rice and raw egg cooked in Korean heated bowl. It was topped with katsuobushi, a type of ingredients for dashi which forms the basis of various types of Japanese soups. That was RM14.90 per bowl. At first, it tasted quite good. But it was a bit too filling.
Finally, our macha ice-cream. It was quite ok but somehow tasted quite artificial to us. RM5.90 for this dessert.
Anyway, a revisit for their sushi would be good, but not for their main course. We think that they should emphasize more on the quality of the food rather than its appearance. Although they don’t serve authentic Japanese food, this would be the right place for those who wanted to have a change of taste for a variation of Japanese food.
