Having no idea to go today, we drove to Sunway Pyramid. Not knowing what to eat, we wandered around the shopping mall until something came to our mind, Sushi Zanmai. Since we’ve read positive reviews on this restaurant, we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is located next to a shop selling Japanese food.
The interior of this restaurant looks quite pleasant to us. We settled down and placed our order. It took us quite some time to read the menu since they offer a large variety of Japanese food. We noticed that they serve both classic and fusion sushi. Since we’re in the mood for sushi, we decided to order more sushi and only 1 main course.
The food arrived shortly after ordering. Here’s our sushi – ikura sushi (いくら寿司) and chuka kurage sushi (中華水母). Ikura means salmon roe while chuka kurage means jellyfish in English. The ikura was RM6 while chuka kurage cost RM3.80. Both types of sushi were fresh and delicious.
Then we had soft shell crab maki (柔らか蟹巻き). First time trying this actually, we noticed that this is quite a popular dish. Well, it tasted good. The soft shell crab was still quite crispy when we taste it. That was RM6.
Next came our kaki fry roll (牡蠣フライ巻き). We’re big fans of fried oyster, but neither of us have tried fried oyster sushi before. It was quite nice, with the extra excitement of spicy mayonnaise. This sushi was more expensive than the soft shell crab maki, it cost RM9.80.
Finally, our main course – sukiyaki (すき焼き). The sliced beef and egg were served raw. The egg was the dipping sauce and we get to cook the beef ourselves, depending on how rare we want it to be.
Along with beef, they served beancurd, carrot, mushroom, shirataki (白滝) and other vegetables in soy based soup. Shirataki is a type of Japanese noodles which is thin and gelatinous. It was made from konnyaku (蒟蒻). We like shirataki very much, chewy and healthy!
Correct me if there were any Japanese words written wrongly, I’m no expert in that language. Anyway, we had an enjoyable dinner overall. A revisit to this place is for sure! Their sushis were really worth trying out!
