Yakitori Do (焼き鳥道)

One of the good Japanese food places which opened until late in KL is Yakitori Do, a place where me and my colleagues frequent after work.

Located in Solaris Mont Kiara, the restaurant operates from 6pm to 2.30am from Monday to Saturday. The restaurant was stylishly designed and dimly lit, very comfortable to hang out for a drink.

Raw cabbage with mayonnaise, Yakitori Do
Patrons were served with this complimentary snack of raw cabbage with mayonnaise. Simple and healthy, I enjoyed snacking on it!

Lemon Sour Cocktail, Yakitori Do
For drinks, I had a glass of Lemon Sour Cocktail. Mixed with Shochu (焼酎), lemonade and soda, it was light and nice, one of my favourite Shochu cocktails of all time.

Negima and Sunagimo, Yakitori Do
As the name of the restaurant suggests, Yakitori Do serves Yakitori, Japanese skewered food. Priced at RM4.90 per stick, the Negima (ねぎま) and Sunagimo (砂肝) was delicious. The Negima, chicken and leek skewer, in my opinion, is not to be missed, it was grilled to perfection coupled with crunchy skin, a must try in Yakitori Do!

Butakushi Muroran Yakitori, Yakitori Do
Their pork skewer is also worth trying out if you’re a pork lover. Also priced at RM4.90 per stick, the Butakushi Muroran Yakitori (豚串室蘭風焼き鳥タレ) was absolutely delicious. The sweet sauce complemented the juicy pork very well, I loved it!

Tsukimi Tsukune, Yakitori Do
Also one of my favourites, the Tsukimi Tsukune (月見つくね) was highly recommended. Priced at RM5.90, the chicken meatball was served with a half boiled egg. The egg gave the meatball a smoother texture, very tasty indeed.

Mune Wasabi, Yakitori Do
The Mune Wasabi (わさび焼き) wasn’t my favourite though, simple reason being that I’m not a fan of wasabi.

Zucchini with Butter, Yakitori Do
Other than meat skeweres, Yakitori Do also offers a selection of grilled vegetables. My favourite would be the Zucchini with Butter (ズッキーニ). Priced at RM3.90, it was simple, moist and delicious.

Tomato with Cheese, Yakitori Do
Similarly priced at RM3.90 per skewer, the Tomato with Cheese (トマトチーズ焼き) skewer was simple but at its best. Juicy and slightly sour with cheese flakes on top, it was excellent.

Eggplant with Cheese, Yakitori Do
Served in a similar method as the Tomato with Cheese skewer, the Eggplant with Cheese (なす) was very good as well, check it out if you like aubergine as much as I do!

Eringi Mushroom, Yakitori Do
Priced at RM3.90, the Eringi Mushroom (エリンギ焼き) was also very nice and simple.

Grilled Potato with Mentaiko, Yakitori Do
Also worth mentioning was the Grilled Potato with Mentaiko (ジャガイモ明太子焼き) which was priced at RM3.90. The potato was nicely grilled, extremely tasty when eaten with their Mentaiko (cod fish roe) sauce. I would highly recommend my readers to try this out!

Mentaiko Cream Udon, Yakitori Do
By now I’m pretty sure my readers would know that I am a big eater. Since the skewers can’t fill my tummy up, I ordered a Mentaiko Cream Udon (明太子クリームうどん) to share. The pasta sauce was similar to the one used in the Grilled Potato with Mentaiko above, very rich and creamy, every bite was so sinful but delicious, best eaten when it was served warm!

Omusubi, Yakitori Do
I tried their Omusubi (おむすび) as well. Priced at RM4.90, there were three selections for the filling of this rice ball wrapped in Nori – Salmon, Mentaiko and Japanese Plum. I had the Mentaiko Omusubi. Yup, there’s no mistake that I like Mentaiko a lot. The Mentaiko Omusubi was simple and nice and it was what I called comfort food.

I really enjoy dining in this place, it’s an extra advantage that it opens until late everyday. As for drinks, Yakitori Do serves a variety of Sake, Shochu and Japanese beers. What happened to this place? Did they move or close down completly? enjoyed this place when it was around and was sad to see it closed… by any chance do u know anything about it…

Jon, I just found out recently that the restaurant closed down. I know how you feel, I loved this place too.

Hi Wen Ching, Jon, I too was very sad to see it closed down, I know the owner she’s a very good friend of mine and I know she tried her utmost best to keep it, she invested her whole heart and passion into this place, previously Akari Japanese Kitchen Bar and later Yakitory Do..

Hi Mong Sun, is it possible for me to get in touch with the owner? I’m actually looking for business opportunity with similar concept restaurant but now I’m very disappointed to know such fabulous restaurant had to be put on a permanent halt.

Shame this place closed. Sumika in Subang is Japanese owned and operated, best Yakitori in town.
