Ever since we came back from the UK, it became a habit for us to explore new food places every weekend. We would ask around our friends or read blogs to update our sources regularly. This time around, we read about Bakery Joy on Masak-masak’s blog and decided to visit this place.

The bakery is located in Taman Megah, next to the famous Fatty Crab Restaurant and within walking distance from Ming Tien Food Court. On a relaxing weekend afternoon, the bakery was packed with patrons coming in to enjoy local delicacies such as Nasi Lemak, Curry Laksa etc.

To begin our lunch, we had a Hainanese Wholemeal Toast priced at RM2.50. The toast was freshly made and spread with a thick layer of kaya and butter. To us, the combination can hardly go wrong and we enjoyed the toast a lot.

Since Bakery Joy was well-known for their Nyonya Curry Laksa, we ordered a bowl to share. Priced at RM8.50, the bowl of Curry Laksa was filled with simple but delectable ingredients such as fish cakes, bean sprouts, prawns, omelette strips, chicken strips and tofu puffs. The curry has a home made feel with aromatic coconut milk.

As Malaysians, we grew up enjoying Nasi Lemak packets since we were small. It was virtually impossible not to try Bakery Joy’s Nasi Lemak when we were there.

Priced at RM5, we had the Nasi Lemak Sotong.
When opened up, the heated up packet was filled with Sambal cuttlefish, ikan bilis, roasted peanuts, half boiled egg, sliced cucumbers and steamed coconut rice. While not too spicy for our taste buds, the Nasi Lemak had a homely taste which we liked a lot.

While still feeling hungry, we ordered a plate of Tom Yam Beehoon, also commonly known as Mee Siam. Priced at RM5, the plate of rice noodles were slightly spicy, sweet and sour. Served with strips of fried omelette, the noodles were good to the last bite.
We also tried their Blueberry Cheese Tart which we loved and went back for more. Next time around, we will try their pastries along with more of their savoury food!
