Sri Nelayan, Berjaya Tioman Beach
Posted by: Wen Ching In: Malaysian Food|Tioman Island
Should’ve posted our Taiwan trip first, but felt like writing this first. Anyway, it was planned last minute and before we knew, we were already in Tioman Island. It was our first visit to this island.
We departed from Subang Airport by Berjaya Air and arrived at our destination in less than 1 hour. It has been a really long time since we’ve been to the old airport, it actually brought back memories.
Anyway, shortly after arriving at the Tioman airport, a Berjaya van sent us to the resort. This photo was taken from the balcony of our room.
We stayed at the upper floor of the chalet in the middle, it was a really pleasant stay.
We took a walk around the hotel, coconut trees, fresh air and greeneries. We were out of the polluted city! The holiday mood came to us immediately.
Someone was holding a dinner on the beach, too bad the weather wasn’t very good the other day, it rained after everything was well-prepared.
This is the chalet in Berjaya Tioman Beach, we wish we could stay in either these few chalets, these are the few ones which are facing the sea.
This is where I sat to enjoy a novel that we brought along. It was really relaxing listening to the sound of the waves all the time.
The view was terrific, more photos will be posted soon!
Let’s begin with the restaurant, Sri Nelayan, which is the coffee house of the resort. This is where we took had our breakfast every morning.
We also had coupons which provided us 2 lunches and dinners in Sri Nelayan, so there’ll be food which we do not know the price of it. This is a combined post of all lunches that we took in Sri Nelayan. Anyway, the set lunch which was included in our package consist of an appetiser, a main course and a dessert. Let’s begin with the appetiser, we had fried wantan. It was rather warm and crispy when served. But we didn’t enjoy it because it was quite oily and the chilli sauce was too sweet.
Spicy rojak for appetiser? It tasted quite good though, the fruits were really fresh and the serving was large. The rojak sauce tasted quite mild.
Ys had this beef rendang as his main course. The beef cubes which were simmered in coconut milk and spices were served with rice, pickles and crackers. It tasted quite good, the beef was quite tender and it wasn’t too spicy or too mild.
I had a bowl of wantan noodle soup. The egg noodles were served in chicken dumplings in a vegetable broth. The portion was really large, with a generous serving of various ingredients and noodles. However, it tasted rather bland to us.
On the next day, we were given different choices for our lunch. Ys chose to have this beef teppanyaki. The teppan cooked beef slices were served with bean sprout, pickles, miso soup and nishiki rice. It sounded really appealing on the menu but it turn out a little disappointing. The beef slices was rather hard and it look like an ordinary set where you can order from any teppanyaki restaurant.
On the other hand, I had chicken and potato curry. This large serving of chicken curry was served with steamed rice, vegetable pickles and crackers. It tasted quite good, the curry was wasn’t too spicy and it was quite mild, aromatic and not too oily. We enjoyed it a lot.
This was another lunch which we’ve taken in Sri Nelayan while waiting for our flight back to Subang Airport on the last day of our trip. After checking out, it was raining and we had no choice but to dine in the coffee house. We had this Tioman Laksa for RM17, the most expensive laksa that we’ve had so far. We were rather curious how Tioman Laksa taste like and decided to give it a try. As usual, the serving of ingredients such as fish and vegetables were generous. However, the fish broth did not taste spicy at all and we did not enjoy the overwhelming taste of coconut milk.
We also had this pizza confunghi which tasted awesome! For RM23.50, this pizza was filled with tomato, grilled oyster mushroom, button mushroom, oregano and mozzarella cheese. The pizza was served fresh and warm and the pizza was rather crunchy and cheesy, we enjoyed it so much. It was really worth the price and we were so full when we finished our lunch.
Let’s continue with the dessert which was served with our set lunch. We had a blueberry pie and a plate of sliced tropical fruits. The blueberry pie was served warm with vanilla ice-cream. The blueberry pie tasted quite good as the filling wasn’t too sweet and it was quite soft. It went well with the ice-cream. The sliced tropical fruits on the other hand consist of fresh watermelon, honeydew, papaya and pineapple.
For the next lunch, we had a choice of Tioman banana boat or sliced tropical fruits for our dessert, we chose the banana boat without second thoughts, probably because we love ice-cream. Three scopes of different flavoured ice-creams were topped with whipped cream, chocolate sauce and almond slices and accompanied with biscuits and bananas. Having a nice dessert will really cheer our day up!
Overall, we enjoy dining in the restaurant. The environment was really comfortable and relaxing as it was facing the sea. Although most of the food didn’t taste up to our expectation, the presentation was pretty and the serving was really large. Service was quite good too! Do check out this resort here.
