As we are frequently around Bangsar, we have a number of restaurants which are our stalwart favourites for dining in. One such restaurant for Thai food has to be Basil in Bangsar Village 1.

Located on the ground floor, Basil underwent a refurbishment rather recently to update its look to a more modern style which also seats more customers while still maintaining a good level of comfort.

Thankfully, only its appearance changed. The quality of the food remained as good as always! We shall highlight several of our preferred dishes below.

This was the Green Papaya Salad with Dry Shrimp, priced at RM9.90. Papaya or mango salad was always a good choice for us as this Thai-style salad was nice and sour with a good level of spiciness at the same time. Definitely a good dish to stimulate the taste buds!

Thai food wouldn’t be complete without tom yam as well, so we had the Individual Spicy Tom Yam Seafood Soup. For RM9.90, we opted for the clear soup version instead. Basil’s soup had a generous amount of squid and mushrooms inside along with some prawns as well. It was sufficiently sour to our liking and a delectable example of how clear tom yam should be.

Our favourite item on the menu has to be the Steamed Siakap with Lime & Chilli. It was priced at RM38.90 and the dish came with a whole fish. Keeping in line with the trend so far, the sauce for this dish was also sour and spicy. It could almost double up as a version of soup as well and it was one of those dishes that warmed the tummy. It was very delicious and we enjoyed it with rice a lot!

Our preferred vegetable dish would be the Stir-Fried Kangkong with Belacan. Priced at RM9.90, the kangkong was fried until fragrant with belacan, resulting in a thick savoury sauce. Some anchovies and birds eye chilli (cili padi) were thrown into the mixture for good measure to round off an enjoyable vegetable dish!
For hassle-free and reasonably priced Thai food in a comfortable dining environment, we find that there’s no going wrong with Basil. Basil is part of SEA Cuisine which runs a good number of Thai restaurants around town. However, we find Basil to be our preferred choice over the rest. For more information, visit their website.
