Not too long ago, I had a plan for Wen Ching’s birthday dinner. Needless to be said, the restaurant of choice for that night had to be top class. The restaurant: Erawan Classic Thai & Fusion.

Erawan is a Thai restaurant run by two brothers. We must inform readers that walk-in customers are not recommended as the place is usually fully booked. In addition, the full extent of the menu will not be available to walk-in customers. Erawan has an extensive menu on its website which is only available when pre-ordered while booking.

We started off dinner that day with Erawan’s refreshing Pomelo Salad, priced at RM30. One of their specialities, the salad consists of fresh pomelos from Thailand, ground peanuts, fried onions, garlic and prawns. It came with a special sweet-sour sauce which was to be poured over the salad. The combination of it all was excellent! It was the perfect start to our meal.

For our mains, we ordered Erawan’s Lemongrass Chicken for RM48. For this dish, the chicken was marinated with lemongrass and roasted until golden brown. A very flavourful dish, one could tell that the chicken was properly marinated as each piece had a hint of lemongrass in it. The dish came with sweet chilli sauce as a dipping, but we would recommend eating the chicken on its own as we enjoyed the natural flavour of the dish.

Another main we had was the Boneless Roasted Duck Curry, priced at RM38. The curry was creamy and slightly sweet, but still very pleasing on the palate. The roasted duck pieces were tender as well. An excellent accompaniment to rice!

We also had the Stir-fried Hong Kong Kailan with Salted Fish for RM20. We were impressed at how a simple vegetable dish turned out so well. It was not overly salty and the kailan was not too hard, yet still had a delightful crunch to it.

As the kind owner of Erawan was informed that it was to be a birthday dinner, he threw in a complimentary homemade Moist Chocolate Cake with ice-cream at the end (usually priced at RM15). The cake was simply amazing. It was soft and seemed to melt in one’s mouth. The cake itself was not too sweet and went well with the vanilla ice-cream. It was even topped off with the cutest icing sculpture of a girl and her car.

Erawan is a restaurant we highly recommend. The service is excellent and the food as well. We will always have fond memories of it and we will be back to try more things from their extensive menu. For contact information and the restaurant’s menu, go to Erawan’s website.
