Adonis Kebab House

Posted by: Wen Ching In: United Kingdom

This was the first time we dined in a kebab restaurant in Cardiff. This post is dated back to last autumn when we first arrived at Cardiff.

This kebab house is situated in City Road, about 10 minutes walk away from the city centre.
We chose to dine in instead of having it take away. The floor and tables were rather oily but the environment was fine overall.
We were drooling when looking at the chef slicing the doner kebab off the rotating vertical spit.
These pickles, vegetables and sauces were used to complement the kebab.
I had a lamb doner meal priced at £4.50 which includes a lamb doner, chips and a soft drink. The lamb doner tasted quite good, it was well-roasted and thinly sliced but a little dry. Tasted quite good with chilli sauce. Perhaps next time we would try the chicken doner.
Ys had a chicken tikka for £4.90. Personally we prefer the chicken tikka more than the lamb doner. The skewered chicken was served on a pita bread, decorated with vegetables and pickles. It was grilled to perfection, aromatic and juicy. Very messy when eaten but we couldn’t care much about table manners when the food was so delicious.

Service was fine and food was good. Worth to give it a try. For people in Cardiff, please recommend us good kebab house or other restaurants so we could explore others next time. Thank you!

Looks really awesome, but I worry about spilling everything over myself. Much prefer how the Greeks wrap up their souvlakis, all neat, minimum mess!

Selba, yeah, it’s great that they have a lot to offer. :)

Timothy Low, thanks! Yeah, the colours of the pickles are really attractive.

thenomadGourmand, haha, seems like you love bread a lot. Then you should like kebabs, burgers, toast etc a lot. ^^

Agnes Cheong, honestly, we haven’t really tried any kebabs in Malaysia. But I supposed Malaysian ones would be good too.

burpandslurp, oh, haha, not too sure about that but I supposed they wouldn’t offend to that. The proprietor seems like a nice person. :)

550ml jar of faith, I saw photos of souvlakis on the internet. They were neatly wrapped up, good one so that we don’t have to worry about spilling everything. Would try that out next time! Thanks for the information.

Squall, really not too sure about Malaysian kebabs as we haven’t had them before. Would try it out some day!

Little Inbox, yeah, it’s true that they offer quite a lot of side dishes and pickles. :)

J2Kfm, haha, no worries, no one slipped and fell. It’s still tolerable.

Jason, thanks! Guess the pickles can make the chicken tikka look more attractive!

Just found your blog site, intresting.

Along City Road there are two of the top of my head that serve much better kebabs.

1. Troy – a few doors down from Adonis

2. Lilo – towards the other end of City Road, my current flavor of the month.

Kebabs are nice :)

When i was in Cardiff there was this one place we used to frequent but i can't recall for the life of me the name of the shop. It's a very small shop hidden in a small alley. All i can remember is that the alley is somewhat on the way to the train station from the city centre.

They make really good chicken doner which i never found anywhere else in the UK. The unique thing about this one is that after slicing of the chicken meat from the spit, they would quickly stirr fry on a hot plate with some onion.. and then when served they would also pour some onion sauce just to add to the flavour.. i can only vaguely recall how it tasted now but what i know is that it was damn good :~~~

Btw, there is a new kebab stall newly opened in Dataran Sunway, Kota Damansara called Project Doner who sell kebab which is unlike most local kebab in Malaysia. From the feedbacks, they make really good lamb doner with some say conforms very well to the 'UK specs'. Do give them a try!
