Bayside Brasserie

Posted by: Wen Ching In: United Kingdom|Western Food

This post is dated back to last autumn when we first came to Cardiff. Having heard that Cardiff Bay is a well-known tourist spot, we definitely couldn’t miss this place out and decided to take a walk from the city centre to Cardiff Bay.

The view of Cardiff Bay.

On the way walking to Cardiff Bay, we saw these interesting graffiti and took a photo of it.

This is the Wales Millennium Centre which is the home to the Welsh National Opera.

One of the landmarks of Cardiff Bay, the Pierhead Building. It is situated quite near to the Wales Millennium Centre.

We were walking around while taking photos, trying to look for a restaurant to dine in.

After much difficulty deciding where to have our lunch, we finally settled in Bayside Brasserie.

As we stepped into the restaurant, we know we made the right choice, the interior was fantastic, and we were excited to see a variety of seafood and other fresh food displaying on their food display counter, too bad we did not manage to take a photo of it.

We love the environment, it was calm and quiet, perhaps it would be more romantic at night.

The view of the sea can be seen from the restaurant.

Let’s get started with food. For lunch, they offer a special lunch menu with a starter and a main course at £9.95. So we decided to have two sets of this lunch menu. We’ve chosen Norwegian prawn salad. It was served with home made Marie Rose sauce. It was well presented. The prawns were really fresh and it was so appetizing with a tingle of lemon juice. Two thumbs up for this starter!

This marinated teriyaki chicken noodle salad is also an appetizer that we ordered. It tasted great as well, it was well stir-fried and aromatic.

As for our main course, we had a pan fried salmon served with herb butter and lyonnaise potatoes. The main course did not let us down either, the salmon is fresh and well cooked. As for the potatoes cooked with onions, they were soft and tasty.

We also had a traditional cod in a yeast and beer batter which was served with home made chips. Although the presentation of this dish is not as good as those above, the fish nevertheless tasted good. The batter was crispy and the fish was fresh. The chips were good too. It was an enjoyable meal.

Knowing me, I wouldn’t end a wonderful meal without a dessert. We went on to order a winter berry pavlova. We have no idea what this dessert would be like before it was served. Later we went home and found out that pavlova is a meringue dessert named after the Russian ballet dancer, Anna Pavlova, interesting. Anyway, it tasted quite good, it is rather chewy on the outside and creamy on the inside. It wasn’t too sweet, just right for us. With the combination of the winter berries which tasted quite sour, it was a lovely dessert to end our lunch.

Service was average but the food and environment were superb. More information can be found on their official website here.We will be looking forward to our next visit there.

Selba, yeah, it’s quite a nice place for food and travel.

Ai Wei, yeah, it is. But this is not where I had my birthday celebrated. When are you coming to UK? Haha!

Ven, thanks for telling us the mistake. We’ve changed the information so that we wouldn’t mislead others. =)
